RoC Skin Care

Roc skin Care began in the late 1950's and was the brainchild of a French pharmacist by the name of Jean-Charles Lissarrague. Lissarrague had some ideas into where to focus anti-ageing skin research and got togethor a team of dermatology specialists to help provide the foundation research for what are now considered to be some of the most effective anti-ageing skin care products on the market.

Lissarrague was confident that a breakthrough could be made for successfully interacting with the natural processes that form our skin's ageing process but it was not unitl the late 1980's that RoC were able to develop a stable form of what is reputed to be the most successful skin care component to actively reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines - Retinol. RoC did not invent Retinol - an animal fat-soluble form of vitamin A discovered ealier this century - but instead were able to develop a form that remained stable during the lifetime of a skin care cream. A report published in the Archive of Dermatology journal publisized the results of clinical tests that gave scientific credibility that ‘topical retinol improves fine wrinkles associated with the natural ageing.’ Anti-ageing products containing retinol did not appear on the shelves of Boots and other health and beauty care stores until the early 90's when RoC had its patents on Retinol approved.

Since its conception, but more so since its break-through with the incorporation of Retinol in its skin creams and serums in the early 90's, the RoC product range has now established itself as one of the most recognizable and successful skin care brands in the world and has the now infamous claim that "skin appeared 10 years younger based on the diminished appearance of wrinkles after 12 weeks of use in clinical testing of either RETINOL CORREXION® Deep Wrinkle Night Cream or Deep Wrinkle Serum". The brand is now owned by the American pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson and continues to see growth in its share of the skin care and cosmetic industry.

RoC Retinol

What is Retinol anyway?

Well Retinol is basically a fat-soluble form of vitamin-A and is important in the skin care and cosmetics industry since it was discovered in chemical and biological research many years ago that it has a strong ability to both act as an antioxidant and to reach the deeper layers of the skin. Basically, the vitamin A is absorbed through the skin and increases the rate of skin turnover, prmotoes an increase in collagen so giving a more youthful appearance. Collagen and elastin are both important components for the prevention of wrinkles. Once applied, the retinol sinks into the lower levels of the skin and stimulates the collagen and elastin. This causes the skin to look smoother and feel firmer. Retinol not only has a beneficial affect on the inner layers of skin, but it also improves the outer layer of the epidermis as well, encouraging greater cell growth, and supporting the natural cycle old skin cell removal. This is why skin careams containing retinol do generaly tend to leave your skin looking and feeling smoother.

RoC Skin Care Creams and Serums

All of RoC’s products in its leading intensive anti-wrinkle range RoC Retin-Ox+ contain Retinol, this includes all its Day, Night, Eye and Serum products. In addition Retinol is contained in the RoC MultiCorrexion product line as well as its Body Modelling rangle. RoC MultiCorrexion is a range aimed at targeting multiple signs of ageing and the RoC Body Modelling line is used to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Both of Roc’s anti-wrinkle product lines – Retinol Correxion and Actif Pur – are based on RoC’s Retinol formula. The RoC RETINOL CORREXION product contains a formula of RoC Retinol and a mineral complex which enahnces the reduction of deep wrinkles. RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream is claimed to be effective in achieving noticeably firmer looking skin after a 4 week course, with a ntoiceable affect on fine wrinkles. After a 12 week period of treatment the product is reputed to have a noticeable affect on deep wrinkles, and not surprisinlgy it has become one of the most popular products in the anti-ageing market. RoC claim that their Retinol Correxion moisturizer is the only one on the market to have truly been clinically proven to put back the age of your skin in look and feel.

Both the CORREXION and ACTIF PUR products have a day cream with the standard SPF 15 to provide routine daily UVA protection. The 2 product lines share many similarities and few differences, I think they are generally aimed at different age groups - Retinol Correxion day and night creams, being the company’s flagship products for reducing wrinkles, are generally marketed as the heavyweight solution for  deep wrinkles and appear to be generally aimed at women and men in their 30s upwards. The Retinol Actif Pur range is marketed as a subtler formula for wrinkles and fine lines (there lack of the term “deep wrinkles” in the marketing for these products), so are intended to be more suited to teens, 20-somethings and women in their early 30s.

The Retinol Correxion formula has a mineral base of mainly magnesium, zinc, and copper to nourish the skin, combined with RoC Retinol. The  Deep Wrinkle Night Cream is designed to work throughout the night, firstly firming the upper layers of your skin to reduce fine lines and then working deeper to impact on deep wrinkles as it slowly gets abosrbed by the skin. Retinol Actif Pur combines Retinol with glycolic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid used by dermatologists to exfoliate the skin.

A multi-vitamin formula containing vitamins E and C and smoothing micro-spheres that help with the removal of dead skin, excess oils and daily grime. Reviews and feedback indicate this is a popular product for leaving the skin feeling refreshed and revitalized.

A strong majority of both men and women who tested this product reported a reduction in puffiness and dark circles around the eyes and a noticeable effect on wrinkles
